Howard is a Partner in Oliver Wyman’s Health and Life Sciences Practice, based in Boston. He co-leads our retail health and distribution strategy teams, as well as focuses on consumer-centric business design, marketing, new product development, and ancillary benefits. Howard is a frequent speaker at industry forums, and has recently presented at AHIP, NICHM, LIMRA, and NIHCL conferences, among others.
Recent experience includes:
- For a local Blues plan, co-led the development of value-based network and medical management strategy and corresponding organization redesign
- For a group benefits provider, helped develop a product growth strategy and deploy a new distribution approach, including digital platforms, for its products and services portfolio
- For a regional health plan, co-led the redesign and deployment of a new care management model
- For a major international financial services company, helped develop and launch its U.S. group benefits business
- For a major group benefits provider, designed a new distribution and digital marketplace strategy
- For a regional payer, developed a new value-based network and medical management strategy
- For a large state health plan, designed a retail strategy including distribution and consumer experience and engagement design
- For multiple private equity firms over the last 18 months, provided strategic due diligence services on potential acquisitions across the health and wellness value chain
- For one of the nation’s largest membership organizations, led the health and wellness strategy development, including the due diligence, market assessment, negotiation and deal structuring with multiple health value chain partners
- For a major health services provider, developed a long-term retail strategy, focusing on customer selection, distribution portfolio, product design, and branding
- For a regional coalition of employer, government, providers, and investors, helped design a healthy community program focused on consumer-centric, innovative coordinated care models
- For a national health insurer, lead the development of a middle market differentiation strategy focused on market sizing, competitor assessment, segmentation and corresponding value proposition development and retail execution planning
- For a leading health services provider, worked with the senior leadership team to develop a Medicaid growth strategy and five-year implementation roadmap
- For a national health insurer, led the development of a growth strategy for their seniors/government program market
- For a national health insurer, developed post reform retail outlook focused on the Medicare marketplace. Work concentrated on future competitive scenarios and required new retail strategies and business models to serve senior segment
- For a major health insurer, developed new go-to-market strategy for its small group business, focusing on distribution, product/benefit design, and customer service support
Howard has also worked at Grey Advertising in New York, where he was an Account Supervisor specializing in consumer packaged goods marketing. He joined Oliver Wyman in 1995. Howard holds a BA in History from Harvard University, and an MBA from the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
